Mark and Nancy Suko

Pastor

Mark grew up on a wheat ranch near Warden, Washington where he came to put his faith in Christ as his personal savior during high school. Up until that time he assumed he was good enough to be acceptable to God. But when he realized no one is good enough in himself (Romans 3) and that God demanded perfection (Matthew 5:48) he knew he was lost. At that point Mark placed his faith in Christ's sacrifice on the cross for perfect forgiveness of sin as the only way to God (John 14:6). That decision to trust Jesus as His Savior dramatically changed his life and direction from then on.

He met his wife-to-be, Nancy Goble, during that time. Nancy was raised on a dairy farm and had come to trust in Christ as her savior years earlier. Both had prayed for God's hand on their future spouse from the time they put their faith in Christ. They were married in 1969 and have eight children (two now serve as full time missionaries) and eight grandchildren.

Mark served in the Coast Guard for seven years during which time he served on lighthouse and lightship duties in the Puget Sound and on Bearing Sea Patrols in Alaska. He is now a member of the Washington Lighthouse Keepers Association.

Mark is a graduate of Western Baptist College (now Corban College) and Northwest Baptist Seminary (Master of Divinity). He is the founding pastor of Discovery Baptist Church and enjoys preaching expositional sermons. He has served on the Council of Fifteen for Baptist Network Northwest. He has also been a local chaplain for the Sheriff and Fire Department since 1986. Nancy is a graduate of Central Washington State College, teaches Bible studies, counsels women, and speaks to women's groups.

The Sukos enjoy being with their family and ministering in the local church. They have a special interest in Ukraine and other mission fields. They also enjoy visiting lighthouses and riding trains.
